Cheryl Chase, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in Independence, a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. She specializes in the assessment and treatment of various conditions impacting children, adolescents, and young adults including ADHD, Learning Disorders, and emotional concerns. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Chase is also an accomplished speaker at the local and national levels, leading workshops on such timely topics as executive functioning, working memory, and ways in which our emotions impact learning and performance. Finally, Dr. Chase serves as an adjunct instructor at several colleges in the Cleveland area. She is an active member of the International Dyslexia Association, the American Psychological Association, and Learning Disabilities Association of America. Keana Allert M.A., Center Director, Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes Memphis Learning Center

Keana Allert is the Center Director at the Lindamood-Bell Learning Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Since 2007, she has worked directly with hundreds of children and their families across Tennessee, helping them improve their language and literacy skills.

Zoi Traga Philippakos PhD, Assistant Professor, University of Tennessee

Zoi A. Traga Philippakos, PhD, is Assistant Professor at the department of Theory and Practice in Teacher Education (TPTE) at the College of Education at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her research interests include reading and writing instruction, strategy instruction and self-regulation, and approaches to professional development for classroom teachers.

 

 Melinda Hirschmann Ed.D., Assistant Director for Educational Services and School Outreach, MTSU Center for the Study and Treatment of Dyslexia

Melinda is a Certified Academic Language Practitioner who earned her Ed.D. from Lipscomb University. She is dedicated to literacy via her work with pre-service teachers at MTSU, with in-service teachers across the state, and to students through tutoring instruction. She is a TN-IDA board member.

 

Joanna Bivins Ed. S., Director of School Psychology and Behavior Services, Tennessee Department of Education

Joanna Bivins is the director of school psychology and behavior services at the Tennessee Department of Education. She has worked with the dyslexia advisory council of TN and department team members to develop guidance and training materials provided training materials across the state to educators and school psychologists on the current dyslexia law.

 

Natalie R. Hoover M. Ed., CALT, Director/Owner, Hoover Learning Group

Natalie R. Hoover is a Licensed Dyslexia Therapist, Certified Academic Language Therapist, and certified teacher who, for over 10 years, has been dedicated to helping learners and families overcome the strain of reading difficulties and other language-based academic struggles. Natalie received her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Dallas Baptist University in 2003 and completed her Master of Education with an emphasis in dyslexia and Certification in Academic Language Therapy from Southern Methodist University in 2010. She has over 300 hours of advanced training in Alphabet Phonics and Take Flight, both accredited Structured Literacy/Orton-Gillingham based dyslexia therapy interventions.

 

Jennifer Fleming M.Ed., CALT, C-SLDS. Teacher, Maury County Schools

Jennifer Fleming is a teacher in Maury County where she lives with her family. She is a C.A.L.T, Structured Literacy Dyslexia Specialist, and the owner of Inspiring Minds Learning Center. She is a SMILA Instructor and serves on the TNIDA Board.

 

Allison McAvoy M. Ed., Wilson Dyslexia Therapist, C-SLDT, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Southeast Reading Center

 Allison McAvoy is Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Southeast Reading Center in Chattanooga, TN. She is a Wilson Credentialed Trainer and Wilson Dyslexia Therapist. She has most recently obtained certification with the Center for Effective Reading Instruction as a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Therapist. Allison has many years of experience in special education and spent eleven years as Lead Teacher for the Hamilton County Department of Education. She is currently serving as Area 3 Director for the Tennessee branch of the International Dyslexia Association and as a member of the Tennessee Dyslexia Council.

 

Mrs. Wendy Boehm M.Ed., Special Education Teacher, Williamson County Schools

Wendy Boehm has served as a special educator in both private and public, secondary and elementary schools for 15 years. Wendy loves exploring assistive technology and empowering her students to advocate for themselves. She just joined the Board of the IDA-TN this year. In her spare time, Wendy and her husband coordinate the You Cane Give program, providing used mobility canes and training to blind and visually impaired individuals around the world!

Lynne Walker M.Ed., CALT, Director-Middle TN, S.M.I.L.A.

Lynne Walker is certified as a language therapist by ALTA and as a dyslexia specialist by IDA. Her experience in the field of dyslexia is as a teacher, administrator, and parent. Currently, Lynne trains teachers in S.M.I.L.A. in middle Tennessee and is on staff at St. Paul Christian Academy. She is a board member of the Tennessee branch of the International Dyslexia Association.

 

Jane N Hannah Ed. D., Upper School Head, Currey Ingram Academy

Jane N. Hannah, Ed.D. is Head of the Upper School at Currey Ingram Academy. She has been at Currey Ingram for 20 years. Dr. Hannah earned her doctorate from Peabody of Vanderbilt University and her B.S. in elementary education and M.Ed. in special education from Middle Tennessee State University. While at Currey Ingram, she has held various positions – Lower School Head, Assistant Head of School and now Upper School Head. Prior to working at Currey Ingram Academy, Dr. Hannah was Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Vanderbilt University from 1991 – 2000. While at Vanderbilt, she worked as a Behavior and Learning Specialist while directing the Summer Day Treatment Program for children with ADHD and the School Performance Clinic for the Center for Child Development. She has also been a classroom and special education teacher, as well as a supervisor of special education in a Tennessee public school system.

 

Aviva Wasserman PhD, Literacy Support Specialist, University School of Nashville

Aviva has a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from UNC-Chapel Hill, and is certified at the Associate level by the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Researchers (AOGPE). She works as a Literacy Support Specialist at University School of Nashville.

 

Allison Edwards M.Ed. Private Practice

Allison Edwards LPC, RPT is an affiliate professor in the Human Development Counseling department at Vanderbilt University, the author of Why Smart Kids Worry and Worry Says What? Allison received her graduate degree in Counseling from Vanderbilt University and is a National Certified Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor, and Registered Play Therapist. She trains and provides consultation to professionals nationally and internationally to help school personnel understand how social/emotional differences can be supported by their neurologically diverse student populations.
